Slow-Cooker Chocolate Pudding Cake

Once again I get the pleasure of reviewing the newest cookbook from Gooseberry Patch; Slow Cooking All Year Round.  Having four kids involved in extracurricular activities there are plenty of nights that I turn to my slow cooker to have dinner ready for us when we return home.  I’m sure a lot of you can relate!  When I review a Gooseberry Patch cookbook I always like to give something “extra” to go along with the book.  It’s my way of saying thank you for reading Flour Me With Love.  This time I knew the perfect gift would be a slow cooker and Hamilton Beach has graciously sent me the Deluxe Set & Forget 6 Quart Digital Slow Cooker and they are also offering one to you.  You can win the cookbook and slow cooker!   

I have a lot of recipes for my slow cooker, but not a cookbook…until now!  Gooseberry Patch has dedicated an entire cookbook (with more than 225 recipes) to slow cooking.  I love how they divided the contents into seasons too!  You have Warming Winter Dishes, Simply Speedy Springtime, Slow & Easy Summer, and Hearty Harvest Favorites.  They also offer time saving tips for every season that will inspire you all year around.  I got straight to work reviewing the recipes.  They’re easy, they use every day ingredients and the directions are simple!  Today I’m going to feature the Chocolate Pudding Cake and another recipe at the end of the week.

Ingredients are as follows:

3 C milk
3.4 oz. pkg. cook & serve chocolate pudding mix
18 1/2 oz. pkg. chocolate cake mix (plus the ingredients on the box to prepare it) 
optional garnish:

frozen whipped topping, whipped cream, or ice cream

Directions:
Spray slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray.
Whisk together the milk and dry pudding mix.

Pour into the slow cooker.

Prepare cake mix according to package directions.

Carefully pour batter into the slow cooker; do not stir!

Place a paper towel on top of the pot to absorb the excess moisture, secure the lid and cook on high…

for 2 1/2 hours…I love the digital features!

The cake is done and you can see some pudding!

Spoon some cake out, garnish, pour a little bit of pudding on top and enjoy!

    My Favorite slow cooker recipe is italian style chicken with carrots and mushrooms!
    Frozen Chix breasts, diced carrots, fresh mush rooms, sliced onions. Sprinkled with high quality italian seasonings (i use penzy spices), salt/pepper and drizzled with 1 tbsp refined coconut oil. Cook on low for about 5 hours.

  50. I love your site and I'm so glad I found it, so many great recipes and ideas. yes, I agree with the others, Gooseberry Patch is awesome. I love my crock pot and will be trying many of these dishes for sure. Although I have many dishes I enjoy making in my crock pot one of my all time favorites is pork shoulder. After marinating and smoking it I place it in the crock pot with a cup of apple juice and let it cook away for hrs. It smells so good and tastes out of this world. 🙂
    My son, who attends college full time, will be doing job apprenticing, and works as well, just moved to an apartment and could use a crock pot. He doesn't have time to slave over a hot stove for hours so I would love to win this for him.

  51. I am so glad I found this site. SO many wonderful mouth watering recipes and ideas. Thank you. My favorite (or one of many) for the crockpot is Smoked pork shoulder. I marinate it overnight and smoke it first for 3-4 hrs, (my favorite wood so far are mesquite, apple-wood and hickory). I then put the pork shoulder in my crockpot for several hrs in about a cup of applejuice-which keeps it moist and gives it a wonderful taste mixed with the smoky flavor and seasonings. I would like to win this crockpot for my son as he recently moved to his first apartment and is in need of many small kitchen appliances and everything pretty much. This would be wonderful for him as he is so busy with a heavy load of college classes and work, and he loves to cook but just doesn't have time to slave over a hot stove for hours. Thank you so much for this site.:)

  91. the house hold favorite right now seems to be beef dips its so good sitting in the slow cooker all day i would love this as i did a pork tenderloin a few weeks ago and it burnt cause i dont have the automatici shut off one i still have the one from when i was a teenager definatly time for a new one good luck everyone trishajudd@shaw.ca

  171. Wow, I've never made a dessert in my slow cookier! I really want to try this recipe you've shared—looks sweet and gooey, just the way I like my cakes and brownies! My favorite thing to cook in the slow cooker is a roast beef dinner. So easy and can be changed up with anything I have on hand as far as vegetables.   193. My favorite slow cooker recipe is pot roast. I found that if I cook a cheaper roast, I start the roast the night before. And instead of just water, I add beef bouillon cubes to it. The next morning before work, I take the potatoes and carrots that I've chopped the night before and left in the fridge with water and dump them into the crockpot (draining the water of course). Oh My! My favorite meal in the crockpot. Yum!
    For green beans or bean soup, I add chicken bouillon cubes with the water and it is SOOOO good. 🙂
    For years, I was making it all wrong! LOL! Once I found this tip, I've done it with many different crock pot dishes and it comes out so good. Most of the time there are no leftovers for me to take to work! LOL!

  334. I like taking a pork roast and a small beef chuck into the crock, season well, and add raw onions on top! Choose how long you want to wait! When it's finished you have the perfect meat for shredding for bbq's or making gravy and having with mashed potatoes!!

  488. I love making a peach cobbler in my slow cooker. I didn't know Hamilton Beach had a slow cooker with a probe. My daughter was just saying the other day that she is tired of her food always being too overcooked when she gets home from teaching, this would be perfect for her!
