I’m not really into frying our food so I’m always looking for ways to take fried food and bake them so they’ll taste just as good. The kids love Churros, but I didn’t know how they would taste baked, but I gave it a try anyways. These turned out delicious! Of course they don’t have the exact same crispiness like the fried ones, however they have less grease and they taste every bit as good. They’re a little crispy on the outside and a little chewy on the inside! In fact, they were so good that I can’t really say how many this recipe makes because the kids were eating them as fast as I took them out of the cinnamon sugar mixture!
Ingredients are as follows:1 C water
1/2 C margarine
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1 C flour
3 eggs
Ingredients are as follows:1 C water
1/2 C margarine
1 Tbsp. sugar
1/4 tsp. cinnamon
1 tsp. vanilla
1 C flour
3 eggs
cinnamon & sugar to coat
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees; grease cookie sheets.
Place water, margarine, sugar, cinnamon and vanilla into a pot.
Bring up to a boil, remove from heat and add the flour.
Stir until a dough forms.
Add eggs in one at a time and mix until combined (this is after one egg).
Keep mixing until a thick paste forms (this is after three eggs).
Spoon dough into a pasty bag and pipe 6″ strips onto the cookie sheet.
Bake for 18-20 minutes; until golden brown around the edges.
Immediately remove from pan then toss into cinnamon sugar mixture.
Take a bite and enjoy!
I need to try these! I love churros – but I don't fry food. Pinning for later. Visiting from Whimsy Wednesday 🙂
Hi! I love churros but never thought to make them… can't wait to try them! I'm pinning this now 🙂 I’m stopping by from Whimsy Wednesday to say hello. I hope you’ll come visit me at jugglingactmama.blogspot.com
Oh, wow! Those look fabulous! We, too, love churros, but don't love the grease. 'Gotta try this recipe! -Marci
Did EXACTLY what was in the directions but centers were still uncooked. I wonder if i made them too thick. Piped out on the cookie sheet, they were about a half inch thick. Anyone else have this problem?
It sounds like they were a little too thick. Mine were about a quarter of an inch thick when they were piped out, however they baked up to about half an inch.
You make these look SO easy! I know that I'd eat each and every one of those sweet churros!
