The Mid-Atlantic area of the US is made up of several states. These include New Jersey, New York, Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia, and the District of Columbia. Fort McHenry, Baltimore Maryland
If you’re stopping in Maryland, you’ll want to take a trip to Fort McHenry. A national monument and a historic shrine to those during the War of 1812. Fort Mchenry helped in defending Baltimore from the British. As such, the victory inspired the iconic Francis Scott Key to write the US national anthem that we know today. It’s best known for its role in the War of 1812 but is now a great place to come and pay your respects and transport back in time to what would have been a very active environment.

The Liberty Bell Center, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
The Liberty Bell is an iconic symbol of freedom in the United States. Made first in 1752 for the Pennsylvania State House, the bell was cast in London England, and shipped over. It’s an incredible historical landmark that pre-dates the revolution. No one really knows today when the bell was cracked but it’s known to have last cracked on Washington’s birthday of all times. In its time the Liberty Bell would be rung often. Nowadays, it sits at the Liberty Bell Center to be admired by all who stop by to see it. There’s a lot to be explored when it comes to the historical significance of Philadelphia and its surrounding areas. Thomas Edison National Historical Park
Designed back in 1887, Thomas Edison’s laboratory and residence can still be enjoyed by tourists of today thanks to its preservation efforts. The Edison laboratories located in West Orange, New Jersey were in operation for more than 40 years. Designed by Henry Hudson Holly, the National Historical Park features the great inventor’s home and laboratory, in its original condition. It’s one not to miss out on.

Delaware Memorial Bridge
Finally, if you’re looking for something magnificent to view, then the Delaware Memorial Bridge is a great one to go along, especially if you’re en route or coming back from New Jersey and into New York. The bridge itself is named in memory of the soldiers from Delaware and New Jersey who died in World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. It’s a great one to pay your respects at as you drive over.
