I love reading, and especially when it’s about a true success story. The Donut King is a Rags to Riches story of a poor immigrant who changed the World – donuts and all! Ted Ngoy arrived penniless in Southern California with his family and immediately began working. He took on two jobs so he could provide for his family and make a better life for them. While he was working at one of the jobs he noticed a busy donut shop and was very intrigued!
He approached the owner and asked if he could learn about the business. He later became a manager and was able to purchase his very own donut shop. This shop became very popular so he decided to expand his business to more shops. After some time, and a lot of work, Ngoy decided to train and employ Cambodian refugees to help him bulid the business. Success continued and Ngoy had millions of dollars through his doughnut shop empire. By the mid 1980’s Ngoy had 50 donut shop locations! By this time, he and his wife were living a very lavish lifestyle. However, Ngoy had a gambling addiction which eventually cost him his empire and his family.
In The Donut King you will learn more about Ted Ngoy, his struggles, how he became a multimillionaire only to lose it all. This wouldn’t be his first time, and it wouldn’t even be his last. He has gone from rich to poor not once, but three separate times. This is a story of survival, hard knocks, and the indomitable spirit of a singular man with unparalleled vision.
The Donut King shares his story of ups and downs and imparts invaluable lessons on success, ambition, love, and redemption!
Please note that I was provided with an early copy of this book to review, however the opinions are my own.
