Our family loves apples, and when I made my Apple Fritter Pull-Apart Bread it was a big hit! Even on here, it has been quite popular, however a few people said it seemed complicated. So I decided to take all the flavors and make it into a quick, easy and oh so delicious poke cake! We love how the icing seeps all down through the cake, and I know you will too.
Ingredients are as follows:
Cake:
1/2 C butter, melted & cooled
1 C brown sugar
1 egg
2 tsp. vanilla
1 1/2 C flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1 (21 ounce) can apple pie filling
Icing:
1 C powdered sugar
4 Tbsp. cream or milk
1 tsp. vanilla
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees; grease a 9 x 9 inch pan (I used a springform pan)
Mix the butter, brown sugar, egg and vanilla together; set aside.
Mix the flour, salt, baking soda, and cinnamon together.
Stir the dry ingredients into the wet until combined.
Mix in the can of apples; I like to dice mine up a little.
Pour into prepared pan.
Bake for 25-28 minutes, until a toothpick in the center comes out clean.
Cool for five minutes, remove from pan then poke holes into the cake; set aside.
Mix together the powdered sugar, cream and vanilla until smooth.
Drizzle all over the cake, allowing it to go into the holes.
Slice, serve and enjoy!
Does this use self rising flour or plain
I use all purpose flour 🙂
I was just going to make this cake ,can you use a box cake mix and then add the apple pie filling? would it taste the same? if so what flavor cake would you use just a yellow cake mix ?
you can use yellow or white, and it’ll taste good.
Lisa this looks like such a great recipe. I love apples and use them as much as possible in my baking. A great recipe to be pinned.
I need to try this soon! =)
