My kids love the pretzels from the mall. So when I saw this recipe on Allrecipes I knew I had to give it a try. They turned out delicious! I was really surprised at how easy they came together, but even more surprised at how much they tasted just like the ones from the mall. Now we can have them whenever we want…which they’re already asking for more!
Ingredients:
recipe adapted from Allrecipes
1 package active dry yeast
2 Tbsp. brown sugar
1 1/2 cups warm water
1 tsp. salt
4 cups all-purpose flour
2 cups warm water
2 Tbsp. baking soda
spray butter
cinnamon & sugar, optional
salt, optional
Directions:
Mix the warm water and brown sugar together. Stir in the yeast and let stand for about five minutes.
In another bowl mix the salt and flour together.
Add the yeast and water mixture to the flour and mix for 8 minutes (it may look like there isn’t enough liquid, however just continue to knead and it will come together; do not add more flour. This is done best in a mixer rather than by hand).
Place in an oiled bowl; turn to coat the top (I forgot!).
Allow to rise until doubled in size. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
Roll dough lengthwise and cut into twelve pieces.
Take each piece and roll it out thinner, (I did mine about 12 inches, but next time I’ll roll them out to about 18 inches).
Twist it up into a pretzel shape, repeat with remaining dough.
Mix together the warm water and baking soda. Dip the pretzel in.
Then place it onto a paper towel to absorb the excess water.
Place onto a greased cookie sheet.
Bake in preheated oven for 8-10 minutes; until golden brown.
Spray with spray butter and sprinkle on cinnamon/sugar or salt.
Take a bite and enjoy!
I made these yesterday and they were delicious, thank you for sharing this recipe. Next time I make them I am going to have to make double because I have five kids. Everyone liked it.
How do you think these would go with a savoury topping do you think the brown sugar in the batter would be too sweet for a savoury style?
I think a savory topping would be delicious, but I'd cut the brown sugar down to one tablespoon ๐
My question here is, can one use gluten-free flour in this recipe?
I've never worked with gluten free flour so I'm not quite sure.
I'm going to have to try this with the all purpose gf flour. I miss pretzels!
Thanks Lisa……made two batches today, don't know if I will have any leftover to freeze or not LOL I think I could live on these!! ๐ If I do freeze a few, I will let everyone know how they turn out.
I'm so happy you enjoyed them Barb ๐
I never froze them Barb so I'm not sure.
Did anyone ever try freezing these? Either before baking or after? My household LOVES these!! I want to try making some to freeze, but don't know if I should bake and freeze, or just freeze the dough.
Oh wow these pretzels look yummy!

I'll have to show these to my husband! He's obsessed with the mall pretzels and the ones we made at home were horrible. We'll have to try this recipe!

Wow, didn't know they are so easy to make. I love the pretzels from the mall but never attempt to make them at home. ๐ Thank you so much for showing the steps. I'm going to try them this weekend. ๐
We love the mall pretzels, and so I had to find a recipe to make them, we use basically the same recipe but you've got brown sugar in yours, will have to try them that way next time.
I love those! Thanks for passing along the recipe.
I LOVE pretzels! Must try this!!
Pretzels at the mall are a weakness of mine! We have made them from a kit before, but this way looks fabulous and a lot more cost effective than the kits! I am going to save this and make them! YUM!
I've always wanted to try homemade pretzels. These look fabulous! Going to have to try these!
This looks so good! we don't have pretzels like that here, which is a shame!
